Charles L. Ewing, II, Pastor

Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church

The Rev. Charles L. Ewing, II has been named senior pastor of historic Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church at 1080 North Manassas Street. An ordained Baptist preacher within the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc., Pastor Ewing was ordained on March 31, 2013, under the Rev. Dr. James B. Collins. Rev. Ewing has ten-plus years of pastoral experience. He preached his first sermon as Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church’s senior pastor during the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, September 3, 2017.

The Rev. Ewing’s most recent pastoral assignment was as youth pastor of St. Mark Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth L. Richardson. He also served as youth minister and assistant to the pastor at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Loudon, Tennessee, under the Rev. James Billings; and as associate minister and youth pastor in Memphis, Tennessee, at Progressive M. B. Church under the Rev. Dr. James B. Collins.

Rev. Ewing has taught bible study and interned at the Wesley Foundation of Tennessee State University and currently serves as a teacher’s assistant at the American Baptist College in Nashville. Rev. Ewing is a former associate director general for the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

While at the helm of Ewing Moving & Storage in Nashville as the current Operations Manager, he has continued the work of ministry and rehabilitation in giving jobs to ex-convicts and drug addicts. He also provides counseling and outlets for drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Rev. Ewing earned a Bachelor of Arts degree Cum Laude in biblical studies and a minor in history at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. Most recently, he earned a Masters of Divinity at Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville. While at Vanderbilt he received the St. James Academy Award for Outstanding Senior Sermon, and the Robert Lewis Butler Award for work in ministry and service to the black church.

Rev. Ewing is married to the former Billie M. Brown, and they are parents of two sons, Chase, 9, and T.J. 4, and a daughter, Raegan, 7.

Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee, has served the North Memphis community for 115 years.

First Lady Billie Michelle Ewing

Billie Michelle Ewing was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her three sisters and mom, Vera Brown. When she is not working for Ewing Moving Service as a Customer Service Representative and caring for their three children, Chase, Raegan, and T.J., she enjoys reading, writing, and doing makeup.

Billie began her spiritual journey at Higher Ground Church under Pastors Calvin and Deborah Hooks in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she discovered her gift of dance. She served as choreographer for Total Praise Dance Ministry, as well as an interpreter for the Sign Language Ministry. She also served in the YPD (Young People’s Department) and as a Jr. Stewardess. While attending St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, TN, under Pastor Kenneth Richardson, Billie served as Director of The Shekinah Praise Dance Ministry and Co-Coordinator of the Generation Next Youth Ministry.
