Board Of Christian Education

The purpose and objectives of the Board of Christian Education are to encourage and promote Christian education through and by all the agencies and auxiliaries of the Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church.  The Board of Christian Education should harmonize, organize and systematize all of our efforts, endeavors, and finance, whereby it may come through the Board of Christian Education or be approved by the Board of Christian Education. (Adopted in 1947 by Chairman, J.W. Westbrook and Rev. Charles T. Epps) Aligned with its original goals, the Board of Christian Education continues to encourage and promote Christian Education for all members of the church and to reach out to the community as well. In collaboration with the Missionary Societies and auxiliaries, the Board of Christian Education informs the members of the training and institutes available to its members.  Through its Post-Secondary Educational Fund, the BOCE provides supplemental financial assistance for tuition, fees, books, supplies to members of the church who are seeking career enhancement.

One hundred seniors, along with their parents, siblings, grandparents, and friends attended Baccalaureate Services. Rev. Steven E. Maben, a 1977 Graduate of Manassas High School and pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, delivered the Baccalaureate Sermon. Following Baccalaureate Services, the Board of Christian Education hosted dinner for all parents and the graduating class. Baccalaureate was endorsed by the entire church.  Additionally, the members of the Board of Christian Education and other church auxiliaries volunteered to assist in proctoring the state exams and monitoring students’ practice tests.  Gospel Temple members attended local, state, regional and the National Baptist Conventions. The Board of Christian Education coordinated two Family and Friends Fellowship trips: a live, multimedia performance of Moses, in Branson, Missouri; and a trip to Nashville Shores for all age groups. Both travel experiences provided an opportunity for Christian fellowship, entertainment, and education among Gospel Temple members as well as members of other churches.
